  • Landing

Hold'em is usually played by nine or ten players. On Figure 1 shows a typical seating position for this type of poker. In this example, ten players are sitting at the table with identical banks (number of chips).

Figure 1

  • Dealer's chip

Dealer chip, disc with inscription "Dealer" or "D", is a very important part of the game as it shows who is dealt and who is in position "button". Each player will have to be the dealer once per round. If you play in a casino, then there will be a professional dealer at the table with you, dealing cards to everyone except himself. However, in this case, the dealer's chip passes around the circle from player to player.

First of all, cards are dealt to the player to the left of the button, and then clockwise. On Figure 1 Player 1 has the dealer chip. In the next hand, Player 2 will have it, and then Player 3, and so on. In a company without a professional dealer, players deal cards (they are dealers) in turns.

Dealer position (button) is the most favorable in the game. The player in this seat is the last to bet, after he has seen what decisions the others have made. The exception is the first round of betting, since the blinds come into play immediately after the dealer.

  • Blinds ("blind bets")

Before players receive cards, according to the rules, the two players to the left of the dealer are required to bet so-called blinds– mandatory bets that are made by default in each hand. The player to the left of the button (Figure 1) bets half size mandatory rate– small blind. The next player bets the full bet - big blind. In our example, the small blind is $1 and the big blind is $2.

  • Giveaway

After the small and big blinds have been posted, each player is dealt two cards face down and face up. These are pocket cards. The best starting cards, as the rules of the game in Texas Hold'em say, are two aces. The first round of preflop betting begins.

Poker hands are the first thing you need to learn. Poor knowledge of this issue can cost you money, be careful.

Well, since the combinations of cards in Texas poker Hold'em is only 10, it will be very easy for you to remember them. Moreover, most often only 5-7 of them are found, the weakest.

Strong hands in poker are rare and you won't see them very often. But they allow their owners to win big pots.

Naturally, before you start studying poker combinations in pictures, you should know the general hierarchy of cards: 2 – smallest map, ace is the highest. This is the basics that every newbie poker player must remember.

Royal flush

The probability of its loss is the smallest - about 0.0002%.

It consists of cards that are arranged in ascending (descending) order of seniority and have the same suit: from 10 to Ace.

This is the strongest possible hand in poker. Unfortunately, professional players Those who regularly play poker may see a royal flush only once every year or two. But you understand how big the pot will be if you collect such a combination!

Straight flush

The probability of receiving it is about 0.0015%.

It consists of any cards, but arranged sequentially in order of seniority, which also have the same suit.

The strength of this combination is determined by the highest card, although the presence of a straight flush between two players is unlikely.

As you now understand, a royal flush is a kind of straight flush, the highest one. But it is placed in a separate category, apparently to make it more interesting to play.

Four of a kind

The probability of getting this poker combination is about 0.024%.

A four of a kind consists of four cards of the same value. The fifth card is called the kicker. It is he who determines the winner in controversial situations when the same seniority is collected poker combinations.

For example, if there are four nines on the table and two players have a king and an ace respectively, then the winner will be the player with the ace.

Full House

The probability of its collection is about 0.14%.

Full House is a pretty strong combination, so you won't see it very often either.

A full house consists of 3 cards of one rank and two more cards of a different rank. For example, 9-9-9-7-7.

If there are two or more players at the table, then seniority and the winner are determined by the first three cards, and then by the second pair.

Flush

The probability of getting it is about 0.2%.

It consists of any cards that have the same suit. When there are multiple flushes, the one with the highest card is determined to be the highest. If the highest cards are the same, the bank will be divided between such participants.

Street

Although it would be correct to say “straight”.

The probability of it falling out is about 0.39%.

It consists of any five cards of any suit, which are placed sequentially. For example, 2-3-4-5-6.

By analogy with general rules determination of seniority - if there are several participants with different straights, then the one with the highest card will win.

With the same rank of high cards in a street, there will be several winners - they will divide the pot among themselves.

An Ace in the combination A-2-3-4-5 is considered a low card. This combination of cards is called a “wheel”.

Three of a kind

The probability of receiving it is 2.1%. This is already quite common, considering that professional poker players fold 80% of their hands without fighting for the pot even preflop.

Three of a kind consists of any 3 cards of the same value. For example, A-A-A.

There are some differences in the formation of this combination: depending on the number of pocket cards involved in it.

If there are two of your cards there, then you have completed a set. This is the most powerful combination hidden for everyone, which will allow you to win huge pots if used skillfully.

When the three of a kind consists of one of your pocket cards, the kicker begins to play paramount importance - the higher it is, the better. Ideally, it’s an ace, of course, but a king or queen is also great. As a rule, they are enough for a convincing victory. High card

Very often this combination (or rather, its absence) is called a kicker.

The probability of such an outcome is 50.12%.

As you already understand, this means that you have not collected any of the above combinations - you have nothing.

With several such participants, the one with the highest high card, for example, an ace, king or queen, wins.

A strong combination in your hands is not a guarantee of winning large bank. To carry out their draw competently, you need experience and even a little intuition and luck.

Study the meaning of cards in poker, read literature, watch educational video materials, and then very soon your average bank and bankroll will grow.

A standard poker deck has 52 cards. Strength poker cards increases from the lowest 2 (two) to A (ace). The suits are equivalent to each other. That is, 6♣ is equal in strength to 6♦.
A poker hand consists of 5 (five) cards. Below are the categories of combinations from strongest to weakest. Each strong combination beats all combinations below it. For example, four of a kind beats any flush, straight, three of a kind, two pair or lower.

Royal Flush: 10 J Q K A

Five cards going sequentially from ten to ace of the same suit. The strongest hand in poker. Is very rare and absolute in power. Players usually call it simply "Royal".

Straight Flush: 5♠ 6♠ 7♠ 8♠ 9♠

A combination of five consecutive cards of the same suit. Most junior street a flush starts from an ace (A♠ 2♠ 3♠ 4♠ 5♠ suited). The eldest is essentially the Royal Flush.

Kare (Four of a kind): 3♦ 3♦ 3♦ 3♦

Four cards of the same value. The fifth card is the kicker. This combination is sometimes called "quads", "carriage". The seniority of the four of a kind is determined by the value of the cards. For example, 4-4-4-4-A beats 3-3-3-3-A. There are situations when there are four common cards on the table - a ready-made four of a kind. In this case, the winner is determined by the kicker (the player with the highest kicker wins).

Full House: 6♣ 6 9♠ 9 9♦

Three and a pair. But among the people it’s just “Ful”. Consists of three cards of the same rank plus two cards of the same rank. For example 6-6-6-T-T. If several players have a full house, the seniority of the combination is determined by three of a kind (trips). For example, 9-9-9-2-2 beats 8-8-8-A-A. If the three are the same, then seniority is determined by the remaining pair. For example, T-T-T-10-10 beats T-T-T-3-3.

Flush: 3 5 A K 10

Five cards of the same suit. When determining the seniority of a flush, several players take the highest card in the flush combination. It is mistakenly called a flash by many, but this definition has already taken root among players so much that it is acceptable to use.

Street: 4♦ 5 6♣ 7♣ 8♠

Five cards of different suits in sequence. The word itself is translated as “direct, consistent.” The youngest street is the so-called " wheel» A-2-3-4-5, the highest is a straight from ten to ace. Please note that a sequence like 2-A-K-Q-J is not a straight.

Set: 4♦ 4♠ 4

Three cards of the same value plus two cards of unequal value. Also called three. The seniority of the troika is determined by its dignity. 5-5-5-3-2 beats 4-4-4-K-5. In the case when several players have the same value of three, the winner is determined by the remaining two cards. For example, 4-4-4-Q-9 beats 4-4-4-Q-8
Note: a set is usually called a three made using both pocket cards, while a three made using one pocket card is called a trip.

Two Pairs: 5 5♠ A♠ A

Two pairs of cards of the same value and one random map. Popularly known as “doper”. For example A-A-4-4-9 or 2-2-3-3-T. When determining the seniority of two pairs, the winner is the combination with the highest pair, regardless of the value of the second pair. For example, J-J-2-2-4 beats T-T-9-9-8 because a pair of jacks beats a pair of tens. If the leading pairs are equal, then it is taken into account junior couples. 8-8-6-6-3 beats 8-8-5-5-K. And finally, if both pairs in combinations are equal, then the higher one is the one with the stronger fifth card - the kicker. So, J-J-6-6-8 beats J-J-6-6-4

Pair: 3♦ 3

A combination with two cards of the same value plus three unequal cards. When comparing the strength of pairs, they look at the merits of the cards that make up the pair. 6-6-4-3-2 beats 5-5-A-K-Q. If the pairs are the same, they compare by kicker. If the senior kicker is the same, then they look at the second kicker and so on. J-J-A-9-3 beats J-J-A-8-7

High Card: A♦

Five cards that do not form any of the combinations listed above. This combination is often called the High Card. All the cards in such a hand are of different values, are not sequential and are not suited. The seniority of such a combination among similar ones is determined by the highest card. If the highest cards are the same, the next highest ones are taken and so on. For example, A-J-9-5-3 beats A-T-9-6-4 because a jack beats a ten.

The entire list of poker hands by seniority in Texas Hold'em:

Royal Flush

Royal flush– the strongest combination in poker. It consists of five cards of the same suit, from ten to ace. All suits in poker are equal, which means a heart royal flush is equivalent to a spades, clubs and diamonds.

Straight Flush

Straight flush– these are five consecutive cards of the same suit. For example, a straight flush to a queen. If two or more players make a straight flush, the one with the highest card wins. For example, a straight flush to a queen (as in the example) beats a straight flush to a jack.

Four of a Kind

Kare– this poker hand contains four cards of the same rank. This example shows four eights, plus a five (remember that all poker hands must have five cards). If two or more players have collected four of a kind, then the one whose cards are higher in rank wins. For example, four nines beat four eights. If several players have collected four of a kind of the same rank (this can happen when four cards of the same rank are laid out on the table), then the one with the highest fifth card wins. For example, four eights and a five will lose to four eights and a king.

Full House

Full house– contains three cards of the same rank plus a pair. The rank of the three cards determines the strength of the full house. Thus, three jacks with a pair of fives beats our hand (three tens and a pair of fives). If players collect identical triplets, the winner is determined by the rank of the pair.

Flush

Flash– five cards of the same suit in any order. If two or more players have a flush, the highest card determines the winner. If the players have equal high cards, then victory is determined by the value of the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th cards, respectively.

Street

Straight– this combination contains five consecutive cards of different suits. Our example shows a straight to jack. If several players make a straight, the winner is determined by the highest card. Street consisting of 6, 7, 8, 9, T, would have lost to our combination. But the street, consisting of T, J, Q, K, A, would have won. It is also worth noting that the Ace can be used as the lowest card for a straight from A, 2, 3, 4, 5. And such a poker hand would lose to a straight from 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 .

Three of a Kind

Three (set)– three cards of the same rank and two unrelated ones. A triple of sevens would beat our poker hand of a triple of fives, a triple of nines would beat a triple of sevens, and so on. If players have the same threes, the value of the highest unconnected card determines the winner. If they are equal, then the value of the second unconnected card. So, a three of fives with a jack and an eight would beat our poker hand of three fives with a nine and a three.

Two pairs

Two pairs– two cards of the same rank with two more cards of a different rank + additional card. If several players have two pairs, the highest pair of one of them wins. If players have the same top pair, then the value of the next pair is taken into account. For example, a pair of Aces and a pair of sixes would break our hand. If two or more players have collected two identical pairs, then the value of the fifth card is taken into account. So, a pair of Kings, a pair of sixes and a four would break up our playing combination.

One-pair

Pair– a combination of a pair and three unconnected cards. If several players have made a pair, then the winner is determined by the seniority of the pair. For example, a pair of tens beats our combination. If players have collected the same pairs, then the one with the highest unconnected card wins. So, a pair of eights with an Ace, a nine and a two would break our hand.

High card

Senior card. If your poker hand does not fall into one of the above categories, then it is ranked according to the category of the most high card. In this example we have a poker hand with the highest card Queen. If the players have the same high card, then the value of the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and even, if necessary, the 5th card is taken into account. A poker hand of Queen, Ten, Nine, Five and Four would break our hand.
