How to convert games from ps2 to ps3. How to Play PS2 Games on PS3

Good news from the PS3 scene! Thanks to the fact that the notorious flatz posted on the network the results of his work on decoding the PS2 emulator software, which is built into the latest firmware; soon programs appeared on the network that allow you to convert images of PS2 games into a format understandable to the PS3 emulator. Below are instructions on how to do it all yourself:

1. Download and install on PS3. An icon will appear in the XMB menu PS2 Classics Placeholder from which we will subsequently launch the PS2 game. Inside the archive PS2 Classics Placeholder There are two images of empty PS2 memory cards. They will be discussed below.

2. We activate and prepare images of PS2 games according to the instructions below under the spoiler.

3. If you already have the first version installed PS2 Classics Placeholder, then remove it from the XMB menu - “Game->Save Data Utility (PS2)->PS2 Classics Placeholder”, and also delete if available ISO.BIN.ENC image from folder PS2U10000/USRDIR

4. Download and install on PS3.

5. PS2 games need to be placed on PS3 in the following folder /dev_hdd0/PS2ISO/

6. Folders with games should be named according to the following type

GAME NAME

Example: “ /dev_hdd0/PS2ISO/ Final Fantasy X

7. Folder structure

- SAVEDATA/SCEVMC0.VME
- SAVEDATA/SCEVMC1.VME(included in archive with PS2 Classics Placeholder R2)
- ISO.BIN.ENC

If you're the proud owner of a backwards-compatible PS3 model, you can play PS2 games just as easily as PS3 games. If your PS3 model is not backwards compatible, you can find many popular games on the PlayStation Store. If your PS3 model has been modified, you can play any PS2 game (even if the console did not support PS2 games before the modification).

Steps

PS3 backwards compatible

Insert the PS2 game disc into the PS3. If the game is compatible with your PS3 model, it will run without problems (just like any PS3 game). The PlayStation 2 logo will appear on the screen and the game will launch.

Press the "PS" button to activate the controller. Once the game starts, you will be prompted to connect your controller. On your PS3 controller, press the "PS" button and then assign the first port (Slot 1) to the controller. This is how the game recognizes your DualShock 3 or SixAxis controller.

  • You won't be able to play PS2 games if you're using a third-party controller. In this case, use the controller that came with the game.
  • Create a virtual PS2 memory card. To save PS2 games, you need to create a virtual memory card that will work like a real storage medium. This can be done in the user interface (called XMB) of the PS3 console.

    • Press the "PS" button to open XMB.
    • Open the Game menu and select Memory Card (PS/PS2).
    • Select "Create Internal Memory Card" and then select "Internal Memory Card (PS2)."
    • Assign the first port (Slot 1) to the memory card. This will allow the game to access new map memory.
  • Make changes to the display settings for PS2 games. Your backwards compatible PS3 model has settings specific to PS2 games. By making changes to these settings, you will improve the quality of display of PS2 games on the screen.

    • In HMV, open the Settings menu and select Game Settings.
    • Adjust the image quality (“Upscaler” option). Here you can set image scaling options to fit the screen size. Selecting the Off option will cause the game to play at its original resolution, which may result in black bars appearing along the edges of the screen. The Normal option will increase the resolution to fit the screen size. The Full option will stretch the image to fit the screen size. If you are not satisfied with the picture quality, select the Off option.
    • Adjust the image smoothing parameters (“Smoothing” option). Anti-aliasing eliminates sharp edges that are especially noticeable in games with 3D graphics. In most games, the effect of anti-aliasing is not very noticeable, and in some cases, anti-aliasing only spoils the picture.

Buy and play classic PS2 games

    Modified PS3

    1. Hack (modify) your PS3. If your console is jailbroken, you can run any PS2 games. In this case, the process of launching the game becomes a little more complicated and requires the presence of a hacked or modified console, which leads to the voiding of the warranty and a ban on connecting to the PlayStation network (PSN). If you're willing to take the risk, search the Internet for information about hacking a PS3.

      • You will have to install Multiman - the most popular game manager. It is included with most custom firmwares.
    2. Insert the PS2 game disc into your computer's optical drive. On a hacked console, you will not be able to play the game from the disc. You will have to create a disk image of the game, and then add an emulator of classic PS2 games to it; this way you can play any game as in classic game for PS2. All this is done on the computer, and then the finished file is copied to the hacked set-top box.

Create a disk image (ISO file). To do this, use a special program.

      • On Windows, download and install free program InfraRecorder. Click Read Disc and then follow the on-screen instructions to create an image of the game disc.
      • On your Mac, launch Disk Utility (located in your Utilities folder). Click "File" - "New" - "Disk Image in<буква оптического привода>" Save the disk image to your desktop. Once you've finished creating the CDR file, open a terminal and enter the command hdiutil convert ~/Desktop/ original .cdr -format UDTO -o ~/Desktop/ converted .iso . This will convert the CDR file to ISO format.
    3. Copy the ISO file to PS3. This can be done using a flash drive or an FTP client. Use Multiman to move the file to the "dev_hdd0/PS2ISO" directory.

Download the files needed to run the ISO file. You will need to download and install two file packages. Find them on the Internet using a search engine.
